There are great things on the horizon to improve access to quality healthcare in North Kem and South Tulare countie For background, there are more than 60 taxpayer supported healthcare districts in California, including several others in Kern and Tulare counties, NKSTHD was founded in 1966 to enhance access to care in the region and begin the process of building what was then Delano Regional Medical Center, which was later sold and now operated by Adventist Health. Since then, NKSTHD opened DELANO DISTRICT SKILLED NURSING FACILITY and the GLORIA NELSON FAMILY CLINIC (both are located behind the hospital. Historically, the district has been profitable and improved care access in Delano and surrounding communi However, after the District posted more than $3 million in te over expenses in Fiscal Year 2000, it wasteep decline of more than 55 percent by the end of 2012. Also, the district's long-reputable and financially stable nursing home was, for the first time, bleeding our, posting a loss of more than $50,000 in 2002 and $690,000 in 2003, after poing $5,000 in revenue over expense just two year prior. While we are working with auditors to revise and confirm inaccuracies in several years of financials, these numbers represem minimum approximate losses in recent years. The board acted peceptly in response and approved hiring a Chief Executive Officer. I am grateful that they had the confidence in me to hire me to lead this charge. In our effort to best meet the needs of the community I have already met with the Delano Police Chief, Delano Police Department school resource officers, school district representatives, City of Delano team members, and Delano Area Rapid Transit, among others. We also recently hired our first Community Relations Manager Personally, I will be completing my special district certification in February and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Association of California Healthcare Districts.
