KAISER PERMANENTE Standing Up for Our Patients and Employees We are disappointed that, once again, the leadership of the National Union of Healthcare Workers is calling on our mental health therapists to walk away from their patients. This latest strike makes no sense. Our proposal would keep our therapists among the best compensated in California. And the union's claims ignore the important progress Kaiser Permanente has made to help address the nation's mental health care crisis In California alone We have hired more than 400 new therapists since January We have made more appointments available to our members We are building dozens of new treeatment facilities We are allocating $10 million to expand our postgraduate training programs We are investing $30 million to help more people enter mental health professions Kaiser Permanente has been on a path to become the best mental health care program in the nation. Our health plans are the only ones in the state to achieve 5 out of 5 stars-the highest possible rating for overall clinical effectiveness in behavioral and mental health care from the California Office of the Patient Advocate. We are committed to doing even more to innovate and advance care. A strike does nothing to advance these important goals, nor does it help us achieve a mutually beneficial contract. All it does is turn our patients into bargaining chips, which is just plain wrong We are absolutely committed to the success of our mental health professionals and deeply appreciate the essential care they provide to our patients and members each day. We are asking our therapists not to follow the union's demand to walk away from patients. We hope our dedicated colleagues will be there for their patients this week We want our Kaiser Permanente members and patients to know that during this strike, we are working hard to deliver the high-quality care and services you need. All our hospitals and medical offices are open Anyone in need of urgent mental health or other care will receive the services they require, although some non-urgent services are being rescheduled. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this unnecessary strike.
