About

KWESI started in 2015, when an an asylum seeker from Ghana named Kwesi had requested a visit. After spending two years in detention, Kwesi was released in May of 2015. Due to the amount of protests, letters, and appeals made by lawyers and community activists, Kwesi received his release due to the advocacy on his behalf. Since then, members of KWESI have been regularly visiting asylum seekers and other immigrants awaiting deportation hearings. Including immigrants from: Cameroon, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, India, México, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Somalia.

Although we as volunteers do not proselytize or offer legal advice to immigrants, we offer support in other ways. Including: Clothes, backpacks, suitcases, toiletries, temporary shelter, bus or train tickets, and food to take with them to their destination in another part of the United States.
